Mimi Winters
Mimi, originally from Iowa but a 45 year "native" of Arizona has 25 years of mariachi playing and is our flute player for concerts and huapango recordings.
Mimi Jennett Winters, a Phoenix native and classically trained flutist, started her mariachi immersion as a middle-aged mother of five in 1985 at the urging of her comadre Kitty Lopez. While attending the ASU classes taught by Kitty, Richard Haefer and members of Mariachi Continental Azteca she was soon welcomed into Continental and spent several years traveling with them and playing for a wide variety of functions. People encountered and embraced, repertoire studied with Mariachi Diablos del Sol, Mariachi ASU and Corazon de Phoenix and experiencing the richness of Hispanic culture have enriched her life.
